The main construction phases

Chronicle of a record-breaking reconstruction
From the first foundation laid on 24 June 2019, and the first deck raised at high altitude on 1 October in the presence of the institutions, to the last deck of the bridge over the Polcevera valley, and the testing phases that preceded the inauguration of 3 August 2020: these are the most significant stages that testify to the record construction of the new Genoa San Giorgio Bridge, a symbol of rebirth for the city of Genoa and for the entire country.
The new bridge was a construction site that never stopped for about 420 days: from the laying of the foundations to when the keys were handed out to the institutions and to the city. Over 10,000 hours of work, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; 1,000 people of 40 different professions engaged in 20 parallel construction sites to continue working non-stop on the country's flagship project, even during the Covid health emergency.
10 months, the record time for the works to build the structure of the new #GenoaBridge, at a rate of 7 days a week, in 20 contemporary and parallel construction sites. Beauty, safety, quality, environment and future for a great made in Italy work, made of vision, great attention and attention to detail.

15 months after construction began on the project, the bridge reunites the two sides of the Polcevera Valley
MILAN, August 3, 2020 – “Today was one of the most emotional days of my life. This project was very much a special project for all of us. It was born out of a tragedy and built with the determination to do it well and to help the city restart as quickly as possible. It was done with the knowledge that we cannot wish away a tragedy, but that at least we can work together to close this unacceptable tear. This bridge must remind us of the importance of maintaining the upkeep of the infrastructure that we use every day, and how important it is to give our country new infrastructure that, like this one, can support the economic development of entire cities and regions,” Webuild Chief Executive Pietro Salini said at the solemn ceremony to inaugurate the “Genova San Giorgio” Bridge built in record time by Webuild and Fincantieri.
