Building tomorrow
Bridges for Life
All of the Webuild bridges: To bring the future closer. Great works of engineering excellence, innovation and sustainable mobility
In 117 years of history - the new group born in 2020 from Salini Impregilo - contributed to developing civil engineering, by building more than 300 structures, among bridges and viaducts, all over the world, for a total length of 1,018 km. Among these, majestic works built globally, in 5 continents: strategic and technologically unique structures for the of people and goods.
Bridges that brought cities, nations and continents together. But most importantly, people. A part of the daily lives of entire populations: not merely structures, but symbols of union.
Genoa Bridge: One of the Webuild bridges that became a model
Works like the building of the New Genoa Bridge. Started in 2019, to be completed in nearly 10 months. Since the first concrete casting, it became a symbol of the will of an entire nation to start over again. Today, it stands as a model for all large works.
The has become an example to be used to relaunch Italy’s construction sector and economy. It is one of the best examples of what a bridge means at its deepest core: Union.
Webuild bridges that made history
A story that goes a long way back: In 1914, to connect the North of Italy to the Centre, works on the Recco bridge began. Recco Station was transformed by this railway viaduct into an important junction, which connected Genoa to Sestri Levante. This bridge, strategic to connect Italy, was totally bombed down during World War II. When the war ended, it was quickly rebuilt, soon becoming one of the symbols of the Italian post-war reconstruction.
Still, the story of the bridges built by Webuild (and by the companies that were part of it) at the start of the XX century, is one that also moves beyond Italian boundaries, to Iran and the Trans-Iranian Railway: the first railway to unite the nation, becoming both an example of national development and engineering skill.
Webuild bridges: Modern, Technological and Sustainable Icons
From the beginning of the XX century to now, Webuild keeps building bridges that for their strong symbolic meaning become a part of the collective imagination: Fundamental infrastructure for trade exchange like the Gerald Desmond Bridge in California, opened to traffic in October 2020. It connects Terminal Island to Long Beach, allowing to intensify the transport of goods from the port to US mainland. Or like the Rosario-Victoria Bridge, built on the Paranà River, a precious trade connection for four South American countries: Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
The journey also takes us to Australia, where Webuild has built Sydney's Skytrain. This bridge received many sustainability and technological innovation awards. It stands as one of top structures of the new sustainability plan for the city's future.
Then to Europe, to the Faith Sultan Mehmet bridge. This exceptionally iconic structure was inaugurated at the end of the 80s, to create a second connection on the Bosphorus Strait, in the Turkish capital. Suspended between Europe and Asia, it allowed Istanbul to be rapidly modernized. It is considered one of the most beautiful and strategic infrastructures in the world.
