The project for Lot 1 (Raul Doamnei Station-PS Opera shaft) of Bucharest Subway, Line 5 foresaw construction of 12.5 kilometres (2 lines of 6.22 km each) of new line running completely underground and built using a EPB TBM, along the Drumul Taberei-Pantelimon section. The line is designed featuring 9 stations (total length: 1,372 m) and a double track tunnel (823m). 

The underground stations are located in correspondence with streets served by surface public transportation or streets of major local importance to permit an easy transfer between underground and surface transportation. 

Connection with the existing underground network is ensured at the Eroilor station, by means of a pedestrian underpass: passengers on underground line 5 will have direct access to lines 1 and 3 of the underground, and a supplementary transfer to lines 2 and 4 of the underground.
