The project involved an underground bypass between the 237.451 and 240.476 km marks along the section between Cap d'Ail and the Principality of Monaco along the Marseille-Ventimiglia railway line.
Three work sites were set up for the project:
in the western area near the junction with the existing line
in the "attack area"
in the eastern area in the Sainte Devote Valley
The excavation of 2,672 m of railway tunnel was done using three attack fronts located as follows:
1 at the natural western mouth
2 in the "attack area"
