San Pasquale Station of Line 6 of Naples' Metro, built by Webuild in a consortium with Moccia Irme on behalf of Hitach Rail STS and the City of Naples, is one of the new art stations of Naples' metro: designed by the Italian-Slovak architect Boris Podrecca, it is enriched with works of art of Austrian artist Peter Kogler

Podrecca described the station as "a vertiginous descent into sea", with a structure on 5 different levels, a huge reinforced concrete box that is 100 metres long and 35 m high.

The inside of the station was created to resemble a large sunken ship, as can be easily understood by the corten steel used, a typically used material in ships, to line the central part of the structure, and by the presence of portholes that also act as a point of illumination of the platform level.

The idea of sunken ship is furthermore confirmed by a superior wire mesh that is completely unconnected to the structures on the perimeter, and that resembles asail with a multimedia function as it has informative monitors that tell of the cultural events currently ongoing in the city. Everything is immersed in the sea, which is evoked with the large coloured blue panels of artist Peter Kogler, and that line the walls, simulating sea waves and making them appear less material.

San Pasquale Station was inaugurated in July 2024.

San Pasquale Station: the context

The station is located in the central part of Riviera di Chiaia, just short of the actual sea, which has been re-evoked by Podrecca in the station. It will be significant in Naples' mobility system: in just a few minutes it will be possible to reach the station in Piazza Amedeo of Line 2, the Chiaia Funicular, the Caracciolo Waterfront and it will allow connecting part of central neighbourhoods of Chiaia and San Ferdinando to the city's metro system. The station is also close to the city's "Villa Comunale" one of the main historical gardens in Naples that hosts the Anton Dohrn zoological station (amongst the most important bodies when it comes to sea biology and ecology research) and the Naples Aquarium (the first public aquarium opened in Italy and amongst the world's eldest). One of the lifts of the San Pasquale station directly takes to the large urban park created by the Bourbons towards the end of the 18th century.

Building the station was furthermore another important occasion for the urban upgrading of Largo Pignatelli, which extends right in front of Villa Pignatelli, which represents one of the most significant examples of the city's neoclassical architecture. The "Largo" was transformed into a  new, welcoming square enriched by benches and new green areas with new planted trees and the recovery of tree essences. A new meeting place, a place where citizens and tourists can meet and that previously was used instead as a parking space for vehicles.

San Pasquale Station: Line 6

San Pasquale Station is part of the Line 6 section that moves along a double track for a total length of approximately 5.5 km from Piazza Municipio to Mostra d'Otremare. Line 6 stops are as follows: Mostra, Augusto, Lala, Mergellina, Arco Mirelli, San Pasquale, Chiaia, Municipio.

Line 6 is a further and important piece of the puzzle of the sustainable integrated mobility metro and railway system that was thought of so as to reduce traffic in the city. When Line 6 fully works, it will transport 7,600 passengers per hour and per direction, also allowing new interconnections with pre-existing metro lines (Line 1, Line 2 and the Cumana Railway Line).Line 6 in fact crosses Line 1 at Municipio, Line 2 at Mergellina and Mostra stations. The latter also allows interconnecting with the Cumana Railway.
