The contract for the design and construction of the second phase of the CTE also included geological surveys, electromechanical works, temporary works, maintenance and operations relating to the ventilation, lightning, signaling, anti-incendiary and traffic control systems.
The route of the second phase of the project runs from Bukit Timah Road, in the north-east of the island, to Chin Swee Road, in the south-west, creating a high-capacity motorway through the center of the city. The CTE II section is 3,700 m long and includes the following structures:

  • North Tunnel, a dual-bore structure with four lanes on each carriageway, for a total length of 700 m
  • South Tunnel, a dual-bore structure with three lanes on each carriageway, for a total length of 1,750 m
  • A 600 m surface section linking the two tunnels and a 500 m trench-excavated section connecting the South Tunnel entrance to York Hill
  • Seven cut and cover tunnels, for a total length of 1,500 m
  • Four service buildings and a control centre
  • A number of important temporary works were also built
