Webuild’s Pietro Salini: Great pride in receiving Genoa Breakwater contract, a new opportunity to create employment in Italy

DECLARATIONS

Webuild accepts engineering challenge as renewed commitment to Liguria Region, a model for Italy

GENOA, October 13, 2022 – “We are very proud to have been chosen to build the Nuova Diga Foranea (new breakwater) for Genoa, a strategic project that will have a big impact on the city and will contribute to the development of an integrated transport system thereby positioning Italy once again as a strategic area for trade in the Mediterranean as well as a port of entry to Europe. It is a vote of confidence in our way of working with an Italian supply chain of the highest calibre and it will enable us to renew our commitment to relaunch the country’s economy and create employment. The Nuova Diga Foranea, like every large infrastructure, is an opportunity to create employment and renew hope in the future for families and the entire region,” Webuild Chief Executive Pietro Salini told a news conference following the awarding of the Nuova Diga Foranea (new breakwater) contract. Italian Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Minister Enrico Giovannini; Paolo Emilio Signorini, President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority; Liguria Region President Giovanni Toti; and Genoa Mayor Marco Bucci were also in attendance.

“The new breakwater is an extremely complex project from an engineering point of view. It will allow us to bring back to Italy the skill and expertise of people who have worked with our Group on some of the most iconic projects in the world in the water sector.”

“The award of the Nuova Diga Foranea is a sign of recognition of the seriousness and quality of the work that has been done up to now in this region by the women and men of the Webuild Group, along with the entire supply chain and representatives of the public and private sectors. The Genova San Giorgio Bridge is a flagship project that proved that infrastructure can be done both timely and well thanks to a virtuous and efficient model of collaboration among the institutions, companies, universities and residents.”

“This important project is yet another part of the region’s strategic vision to grow over the long term. Together with the Terzo Valico dei Giovi, it will strengthen the Genoa port system and that of northern Italy within the Rhine-Alps Corridor of the TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network).”
