Work Safety: Webuild’s Valyou Programme earns Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) Gold Award for accident prevention
MILAN, October 5, 2020 – Webuild has won international recognition for its best practice in health and safety in the workplace in 2019, with its “Valyou – Our Health and Safety Way” programme receiving a Gold Award in the 2020 edition of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards. In a sector as complex as civil infrastructure, safety is the word of the day at Webuild, whether it be at the head office or on the construction site. With Valyou, it was able to improve safety and reduce the number accidents.
RoSPA is a British body that annually awards organisations throughout the world for their commitment to accident prevention and safeguarding health at work.
Webuild’s commitment to health and safety is expressed through a number of initiatives like Valyou, whose multi-year plan developed in 2017 and launched in 2018 that uses leadership, training and internal communication to involve every employee at the Group and have them become “Safety Builders”. Bringing itself in line with international best practice on health and safety has led to 9,000 hours of training in two years in 120 workshops around the world and the involvement of 10,000 people in the communication campaign.
Webuild’s commitment has also increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the creation of a task force that establishes the measures to be taken and looks out for potential hot spots. About 65 people are involved in taking the necessary actions to guarantee adequate safety standards in every country where the Group operates. They help with training and informing more than 50,000 people on how to minimise the risks of COVID-19. Other initiatives have included the distribution of about 900,000 masks and the execution of 12,000 inspections on worksites. All these efforts have been focused on avoiding the spread of the virus among employees and allow for projects that are strategic to clients and communities to proceed without interruption. The Genova San Giorgio Bridge is one example, whose worksite remained open during the lockdown in Italy in order for the project to be delivered in record time.
