Webuild: USD 190 million new road contract for Lane for Interstate 4, Florida, USA
Since the start of 2024, over €1 billion new contracts acquired and being finalized for Lane
Milan, October 25, 2024 – The Webuild Group has won a new road project worth USD 190 million (€172 million, 100% Lane) with its subsidiary Lane to build a highway interchange between Interstate 4 (I-4) and State Road 33 (SR 33) in Polk County, FL. The contract takes Lane's value for 2024, for newly acquired contracts and those being finalised, to over €1 billion. North America therefore confirms itself to be a strategic market for the Group, as of June 30, 2024, it stood for 13% of its total revenues.
The new contract was awarded to Lane by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). It foresees reconstructing the existing interchange at I-4 and SR 33 in Lakeland, to accommodate increased traffic in this area, as well as integrating a future rail corridor in the median of I-4. The interchange will be configured in such a way as to increase road safety, with a system of multi-lane acceleration and deceleration ramps and roundabouts to reduce the time needed to cross the crossing. This project also widens 5 miles of SR 33, with signage and signalization, ITS and lighting, as well as constructing two bridges to improve safety and accommodate animal crossings.
Webuild, with Lane, is currently building a series of projects aimed at updating and expanding the road infrastructural system in the US, which in Florida includes the Turnpike Mainline Widening in Lake County and the SR 417 in Seminole County; the I-275/SR 60 Westshore Interchange; and I-4/I-275 Downtown Interchange projects in Tampa; and the interconnections between the I-4 and the SR-535, and Sand Lake Road in Orlando. The Group, also in Florida, is committed to modernizing the Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB) in Panama City, which was severely damaged by hurricane Michael in 2018. Beyond Florida, the Group is also working to modernize a section of the I-64 in Virginia and the interconnection between the I-77 and the I-40 in North Carolina; and is replacing and modernizing the outdated bridges that carry I-20 over the Wateree River, in Kershaw County, SC.
