Webuild set for reconstruction of Ukraine

PRESS NOTES

Group signs “Memorandum of Collaboration” with Ukraine’s main energy operator

MILAN, April 26, 2023 – Webuild has signed a “Memorandum of Collaboration in the Construction of Hydropower Facilities in Ukraine” with Ukrhydroenergo, the main hydropower plant operator in Ukraine. The Memorandum states the interest of the parties to collaborate during the next three years in the construction of new hydroelectric infrastructure in the country. The Memorandum is designed to facilitate an assessment of the feasibility of an eventual development of hydroelectric plants, or their conversion into pumping stations in Ukraine. Such projects would be defined under more specific agreements. Webuild is today the only Italian company to have signed an agreement for the development of possible future collaborations with Ukrhydroenergo

The signing of the Memorandum was announced during the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference, organised in Rome today by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and dedicated to discussing the participation and projects to contribute to rebuilding Ukraine.

According to World Bank and European Commission forecasts, the cost of rebuilding Ukraine and helping the country recover should amount to approximately €383 billion for investments to be made during the 2023-2033 period. They would be mainly earmarked for transport (22%), residential buildings (17%) and the energy sector (11%).

Webuild brings to the agreement a significant track record in the clean hydro energy sector, with a construction of 313 dams and hydroelectric plants worldwide for a total installed capacity of 52,900 MW. Among its ongoing projects to generate clean energy, there is the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River, designed and built to meet the domestic energy needs of Ethiopia and help it with its development through the export of electricity to neighbouring countries; the Rogun hydroelectric project in Tajikistan, which will be the world's tallest dam and double the energy production of the country; the Snowy 2.0 hydroelectric project in Australia, which will be one of the world's most efficient, able to generate electricity to meet demand in just 90 seconds.
