MILAN, July 12, 2023 – Webuild has nominated Gianni De Gennaro as chairman of Eurolink, the General Contractor for the design and construction of the bridge over the Strait of Messina between Sicily and Calabria in southern Italy. The Group, which leads the consortium of international partners, cites De Gennaro’s institutional and corporate experience, as well as his integrity and transparency in the approach he has brought to security and law enforcement in the country.

De Gennaro has years of experience as manager in the public and private sectors, acquiring a profound expertise in public institutions as well as the corporate and banking fields. He has served as head of the police force and director general for public security; chief of staff at the Interior Ministry; general manager of the Security Intelligence Department (DIS in Italian); undersecretary of state before the Council of Ministers during the government of Mario Monti with responsibility for intelligence and security services. Between 2013 and 2020, he was chairman of Leonardo (formerly known as Finmeccanica) before becoming chairman of Banca Popolare di Bari from 2020 to 2022. As of 2013, he was chairman of Centro Studi Americani.

Eurolink has Webuild as leader with a 45% stake, along with partners Sacyr with 18.7%, Condotte d’Acqua 15%, CMC 13%, IHI 6.3% and Consorzio ACI 2%. The international consortium won the public tender held to ensure the best expertise for the construction of a strategic infrastructure and generator of growth to the economy for the country.
