Tokwe Mukosi Dam inaugurated in Zimbabwe

May 19, 2017 – Salini Impregilo has assisted in the inauguration of the Tokwe Mukosi dam, in the presence of President of Zimbabwe.
The project, awarded by the Zimbabwe Government to a joint-venture with Salini Impregilo, involved the construction of a Concrete Face Rockfill Dam (CFRD), five-saddle dam and significant ancillary works.
The dam, rising 90 m above its foundation, is the tallest in the country and it creates the largest artificial lake in Zimbabwe. It has a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters and the artificial basin is over 40 km in length.
Tokwe Mukosi Dam is one of the most important steps in the Zimbabwe Government's commitment to meet the present and future water requirements of the Masvingo region.
Thanks to the completion of the dam, an additional 25,000 hectares of unproductive fields will be dedicated in the downstream areas to the cultivation of sugar, cotton and tobacco, creating new business opportunities in one of the most difficult areas of the country.
In the past days, Salini Impregilo received from the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers a public recognition of noteworthy Engineering Achievement for the project.
The project adds to the important portfolio of over 400 projects realized by the Group on the African continent, to provide local populations with infrastructure for development, in particular dams, hydroelectric plants and roads.
