Webuild wins “Qatar Sustainability Awards 2017”

November 6, 2017 – Salini Impregilo wins Qatar Sustainability Awards 2017 as Best Green Building Contractor for the Red Line North of Doha’s new metro.

The prize was awarded by the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC). Now at their second edition, the “Awards” aim at recognizing the efforts, commitment and results that companies, institutions or people have reached to promote sustainable development and environmental safeguard in Qatar.  

The prizes were awarded during the ceremony held on October 29 in Doha. QGBC Director, Meshal Al Shamari, said he hopes that communities will draw inspiration from these awards, to reach the sustainable development objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 plan.

The project of the Red Line North built by Salini Impregilo is part of the programme for implementing the new infrastructure mobility system promoted by Qatar as part of the 2030 National Development Plan. The new metro line, more specifically, heads north from Mushaireb Station. It is 13 km long and includes building 7 new stations (6 underground and 1 above ground).

This is an important recognition for the Group's efforts in Qatar. The Group recently also won the ENR Best Global Project Award for the Abu Hamour hydraulic tunnel, identified as international best practice with regard to migrant workers' rights in the Country.

Salini Impregilo is also involved in building the new Al Khor Sports Complex for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
