Webuild and Politecnico di Milano: a strategic alliance for young engineers

The first international Master’s in large infrastructure projects combining the execution and managerial skills of Salini Impregilo and the didactic experience of the Politecnico di Milano was launched today. The post lauream Master‘s in International Construction Management (Level I & II) presented at the Politecnico di Milano by Salini Impregilo CEO Pietro Salini and Giovanni Azzone, the university’s Rector, is dedicated to teaching young engineers from universities all over the world to combine technical and managerial skills for an international career in project management in large-scale infrastructure.
The Master’s was conceived by Salini Impregilo and Politecnico di Milano with an innovative formula, combining classroom lectures by university professors and Salini Impregilo experts with a six-month internship with Salini Impregilo in Italy or abroad.
“This collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano represents the start of new era for Salini Impregilo,” says Pietro Salini. “We want to share our unique knowledge with young graduates with whom to build a better future for current and future generations. Knowledge and experience are what enables a company to be flexibile enough to face the challenges of the market.”
“We believe that training and attracting young talent from the best universities in the world,” continues Salini, “is a lever to use to continue to grow and produce the best results for our shareholders. Human capital is increasingly more strategic asset to remain competitive in a challenging market. We have to imagine our future and for us young graduates represent the future.”
“Your ability to enter the labor market will depend on the quality of the competencies that you gain,” says Giovanni Azzone, the Politecnico di Milano’s Rector, who described as “innovative” the collaboration with Salini Impregilo. “We are looking for the right balance between innovation and education to help companies better compete in the world.”
Gian Luca Grondona, Group Human Resources & Organization Director at Salini Impregilo, says the Master’s had overcome a barrier that is often found between universities and companies and prevents them from collaborating. “We have broken down this barrier.”
Attending the event to welcome the students were Joseph Attias, Salini Impregilo’s incoming Group Engineering, Development and Concessions Director; Antonio Zaffaroni, International Operations Area Coordinator; and Flavio Di Pietro, Area Controller Director.
In addition to its know-how, Salini Impregilo has offered scholarships to help some students to attend the Master’s.
The Master’s is giving particular attention to the selection process to ensure diversity: the 2016-2017 program foresees 33% international students and 13% female participation.
The students will obtain a Diploma in “International Construction Management” Level II Specializing Master’s.
