Red Line North: a new milestone for the project in Doha

NEWS

2015, October 21 - New goal reached for the Red Line North Underground works in Qatar. With the breakthrough of TBM S-867 (on 10th October 2015) and S-865 (on 13th October 2015) at the Legtaifiya Station in Doha, Salini Impregilo, leader of the ISG JV, has completed 11 out of 16 drives across the Red Line North Project (70% of tunneling works).

These specific breakthroughs are, additionally, a successful achievement of a strategic interface milestone within the Qatar Rail Metro Project. In fact, Legtaifiya Station will be the interchange point between the Metro System and the Lusail Railway Transport System. TBMs S-865/7 will enter now into their final drives towards the Golf Course Trough where they are expected to arrive early in 2016. ISG JV is currently deploying other 2 TBMs which are busy in excavating within the West Bay area passing just below the unique skyline of the city of Doha.

The Red Line North Underground extends in a northerly direction from the station of Mushaireb, for approximately 13 km, through seven new underground stations.

The project involves the excavation of two parallel tunnels, one in each direction, approximately 11.6 km long with an internal diameter of 6.17 m.

The Red Line North Underground, together with a further 3 metro lines, forms part of the project to build the new infrastructural mobility system promoted by Qatar within the National Development Plan for 2030 (Qatar National Vision 2030).
