Progetto Italia: Webuild’s plan to create big infrastructure player with solid base in Italy is now complete

PRESS NOTES

MILAN, April 6, 2022 – Progetto Italia, the plan launched by Webuild to create a big infrastructure player with a solid base in Italy, is now complete.

The end of the long journey begun in 2019 by Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of Webuild’s predecessor, Salini Impregilo, was marked by a filing of the Articles of Association with the Business and Trade Registry. It illustrates the scale of the group, created by the entry of CDP Equity SpA and the country’s main financial institutions (Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit and Banco Bpm) as shareholders with the signing of an investment agreement in 2019. The operation has resulted in notable figures in terms of revenue, order backlog and workforce.

In 2021, Webuild posted revenues of €6.7 billion and new orders worth a combined €11.3 billion in a backlog of €45.4 billion

Progetto Italia allowed for the consolidation of the internal market in Italy with important acquisitions such as that of Astaldi and Cossi, increasing the Group’s presence in Italy. By the end of 2021, Italy represented 48% of the Group’s total backlog and 32% of revenues, with more than €5 billion in new orders acquired in 2021 – at par with other large European competitors. The impact of Progetto Italia, which involved a supply chain 8,000 businesses and ensured the continuity of strategic projects in the country, saw the creation of 16,100 direct and indirect jobs in Italy in 2021. This process has accelerated with the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) which, together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, has earmarked €24 billion for public works.
