Pedemontana: Roberto Maroni, president of the Lombardy region, inaugurates a second section of the Pedemontana motorway, section A, after the inauguration of the Varese bypass. Salini Impregilo leader of the consortium with a 47% share
January 26, 2015 - A second section of the Pedemontana Lombarda motorway, built by the Pedelombarda consortium led by Salini Impregilo with a 47% share, was inaugurated today in the presence of Roberto Maroni, President of the Lombardy Region. The Mozzate service area of Section A welcomed the guests for the second inauguration ceremony of the Pedemontana motorway, a project that includes three macro sections of motorway: section A, (A8-A9) a stretch of over 15 km of the Dalmine – Como – Varese – Valico del Gaggiolo Motorway link that was inaugurated today, the 1st section of the Varese bypass about 5 km long, already inaugurated on Saturday 24th, and finally the 1st section of the Como bypass, over 3km long.
The main artery of Section A connects the A8 Milan-Varese motorway with the A9 Milan-Como motorway. It is of strategic importance along the east-west motorway artery: this first section reaches Bergamo and will help the wealthy Brianza area to recover competitiveness by upgrading the road system and improving the accessibility to international borders as well as the Malpensa and Orio al Serio airports.
The total value of the three macro sections of the project is approximately €930 million. The project, which was completed on time and on budget, involved over 6500 people between employees and workers, along with ancillary activities involving roughly 720 companies and the use of 5,500 items of plant and machinery, some of which the most technically-advanced in the industry.
Salini Impregilo maintains its position as leader in the infrastructure sector in Italy: the Pedemontana motorway is an extremely important project that will create a vital link with international motorways.
