MILAN, June 7, 2019 – The handprints of scores of workers cover the yellow stone panels that line the walls of the Nørrebros Runddel station of the new Cityringen metro line in Copenhagen. They give the station its distinctive character, having it blend with the old workers’ neighbourhood where it is situated. They are the most prominent detail of the station that quickly drew the attention of the more than 800 visitors who accompanied Mayor Frank Jensen on Wednesday during the third Open Day organised along the line.

Having Cityringen’s stations merge with their surroundings in both design and structure was one of the fundamental ideas behind the planning of the line in a city that has made sustainable mobility and liveability a priority. Every station is a reflection of the neighbourhood where it is located, both in colour and design.

The project will be inaugurated in the coming months. It is Europe’s most important metro project under construction after the Grand Paris Express in France. It joins a strong track record of a Group that is preparing Progetto Italia (Project Italy), a plan to consolidate Italy’s main construction companies to create a global leader in the development of sustainable mobility.

Cityringen will further the Danish capital’s goal to expand public transport services. With the new metro line, Copenhagen will have a network able to serve 130 million passengers a year. The new line with its driverless trains consists of two parallel tunnels 15.5 kilometres long with 17 stations at an average 30 metres below street level.
