Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi visits Webuild's worksite in Peru
October 27, 2015 - Italy's Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi visited the worksite of Lima's new metro system, where Salini Impregilo is building two metro lines, with a consortium that is 90% of European origin.
"This morning I visited Lima's metro worksite, where some Italian companies are demonstrating extraordinary strength". This is what Mr. Renzi said yesterday with pride, when he described his experience in Lima, pointing out that "innovation can allow us to play excellent cards, and to observe Italian excellence in the world".
Mr. Renzi's trip was decided in order to strengthen the strategic collaboration with Latin America's countries and to actually "touch" the real value of Italian excellence in the world. This is why the Italian Prime Minister decided to travel to Lima and see the worksite that will revolutionise the life of thousands of people in one of the most populated and polluted cities in the world. A strategic project for Peru's capital, where there is currently only one elevated metro line. Designed with cutting-edge technical solutions, the two metro lines are built underground and are totally automated, not requiring a driver. They will contribute to the reduction of the city's air pollution levels.
This ambitious project began in April 2014 with the signing of a contract for designing, building, supplying the rolling stock, starting and for the concession for 35 years of Line 2 and of the Ramale of Line 4 of Lima's metro. The contract was signed between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru and the concessionaire Metro de Lima Línea 2 S.A, with a participation of Italian companies equal to 46.75%. The total amount, for 35 km of underground lines, including the concession, is approximately USD $5,700,000,000.
50 years of experience in South America and a great willingness to continue working on a large scale in this continent, and particularly in those countries that are showing a good capacity of meeting growth challenges in the medium to long-term period. This is Salini Impregilo's biography, the Italian company that works in the large complex infrastructure sector, with a historical presence in Peru that goes back to 1966.
Since 1966 Salini Impregilo has built 4 significant works in Peru (exceeding € 20 million), of which one is currently ongoing. The Salini Impregilo Group will be able to transfer its excellent field expertise in the "railways and metro" sector. An expertise acquired by building more than 375 km of metro lines, which are among the largest in the world, including the ones completed in Paris, New York, San Francisco, St. Petersburg, and those currently under construction in Riyadh, Doha, Copenhagen, just to name a few.
