Webuild has been a global leader in the water sector for over a decade, delivering sustainable infrastructure to improve access to clean water and pioneering projects that enhance climate resilience

Milan, 22 March 2025 – From the Middle East to Africa, from Australia to North America, Webuild celebrates World Water Day 2025 across its construction sites in around 50 countries, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the planet’s precious water resources. This dedication is reflected in the more than 20 million people who benefit daily from the water treatment and desalination plants designed and built by the Group and its subsidiary, Fisia Italimpianti, a specialist in this field.

The clean hydro energy and clean water sectors represent a significant share of the Group’s revenue, accounting for 23% of the total as of December 31, 2024. This growth is largely driven by technically challenging hydroelectric projects that set global benchmarks for innovation, such as Snowy 2.0, Australia’s largest renewable energy project, and initiatives aimed at protecting and restoring large water basins. One example is the Riachuelo project, one of the world's largest and most complex environmental sustainability initiatives, featuring a wastewater treatment plant serving 14 municipalities to improve sanitary conditions for 4.3 million people in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

Among the Group's most iconic projects are dam systems, aqueducts, desalination plants, water treatment facilities, and irrigation infrastructure, which transform communities and protect the environment. The Tokwe Mukosi Dam in Zimbabwe irrigates 25,000 hectares of agricultural land, while the Neckartal Dam in Namibia supports irrigation for 5,000 hectares.

The Group has built some of the most significant desalination plants, particularly in the Middle East, including the Shoaiba-3 Plant, designed and constructed by Fisia Italimpianti in Saudi Arabia. This facility produces 250,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, meeting the needs of over 1 million residents in the cities of Jeddah, Mecca, and Taif. With Fisia Italimpianti, Webuild is at the forefront of designing and constructing desalination plants that convert seawater into potable water, ensuring access to clean water even in the world's most arid regions. Seawater desalination is one of the most promising solutions to address water scarcity, providing a reliable supply of clean and safe water for daily consumption, public services, industrial processes, and healthcare applications.
