Milan, 07 January 2025 – The Group is capitalising on global business opportunities through resilience and innovation. This long-term strategy has driven Webuild to the forefront of international companies in the water sector for over a decade, positioning the Group among the global Top 5, in the sustainable mobility sector. Webuild's leadership is further reinforced by the 2024 industry rankings published by Engineering News-Record (ENR), the leading global magazine for the construction industry.
The 2024 Top 250 International Contractors ranking, compiled by ENR based on revenues generated by companies outside their domestic markets in 2023, highlights Webuild's prominence across numerous sector categories. The Group ranks first in the Dams & Reservoirs sector and in the Sanitary & Storm Sewers sector, which is crucial for ensuring the resilience of territories against extreme weather events.
The Group has also solidified its position in the transport sector, ranking in the Top 5 for highways and mass transit and rail systems, and 8th in the bridges category. Webuild has also demonstrated significant leadership in emerging and innovative sectors such as Data Centers, securing 10th place in the Data Centers & Web Hotels category, thanks to additional support from its Swiss subsidiary, CSC Costruzioni.
For Webuild, the clean hydro energy and clean water sectors represent a significant share of the Group's revenues, accounting for 22% of the total as of 30 June 2024. This is largely driven by the progress of technically challenging hydroelectric projects that set global best practices for innovation. Notable examples include Snowy 2.0, the largest renewable energy project in Australia, developed in partnership with the Australian subsidiary Clough, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Ethiopia. Once completed, GERD will be the largest dam in Africa. The Group’s results are also supported by its subsidiary, Fisia Italimpianti, which serves over 20 million people through desalination plants, primarily in the Middle East. Seawater desalination is one of the most promising methods to address water scarcity, providing clean and drinkable water for daily use, public supply, industrial processes, and more.
The American subsidiary Lane has also been strengthening the Group's position in delivering a series of projects aimed at modernising and expanding the road infrastructure system across the United States, from Florida to Virginia, and from North Carolina to South Carolina.
The Group also stands out in the ENR rankings for its work in bridge construction, with a track record of 1,020 kilometres of bridges and viaducts completed—equivalent to a single large bridge connecting Paris to Berlin, spanning all over Europe.
