Webuild for sport with Italian female champions

Group with CONI with female athletes to support women and the young

From sailing (Banti) to judo (Bellandi), boxing (Carini), and athletics (Dosso, Palmisano), the stories of commitment and passion behind the medals and in Webuild's construction sites

Rome, June 24, 2024 – “We dream, we build, we win” is the connecting thread that speaks of commitment, passion and determination, bringing together sportswomen's successes and that of a company leading the infrastructure sector like Webuild. The Group, to tell the story of great tenacity behind every medal, but also behind every work it builds, presented today the “Webuild per lo sport. Atlete campionesse di vita e di sport” initiative (Webuild for sport. Female athletes, champions in sport and life) with the patronage of the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI), in the presence of the President of CONI Giovanni Malagò and Webuild's CEO Pietro Salini. The project aims at promoting sport values through the stories of the following five Italian female champions: Caterina Banti (Sailing), Alice Bellandi (Judo), Angela Carini (Boxing), Zaynab Dosso (Athletics), and Antonella Palmisano (Athletics).

“These women – said Malagò – have exceptional sport and personal stories to tell. And with Webuild, they share the same values, from teamwork to safeguarding the environment. The Comitato Olimpico (CONI) is very pleased with this initiative with Webuild, which is not only a national champion but a global one too, a company that makes anyone in Italy proud of being Italian”.

“These female champions, who make the whole of Italy very proud, stood out in the last years for their sport successes, and for their commitment and sacrifice. We are very proud to be here today with them, with CONI and President Malagò – said Salini. – Sport is a path filled with great satisfaction but also with many obstacles, and being an athlete is a demanding job just like ours is. Talent and determination are two pillars of Webuild's culture, our key to realizing the world's most challenging infrastructure. Building a railway like the one we are building in Sicily or under the Alps (Brenner Tunnel), a dam in the desert like the one in Saudi Arabia for NEOM, or the new Metro C in Rome, means daily challenging ourselves with the aim of bettering the lives of thousands of people. In a mainly man-predominant sector, the road towards success sees a lot of hard work. But what really matters in the end is being able to commit and adapt to often extreme conditions, and to constantly improve, just like we do in our global construction sites. To succeed and work in a team, there's a need for strong values, just like the ones of these extraordinary sportswomen, who can give their very best when things get rough”.

The event is part of the set of initiatives promoted by the Group, to create shared value where Webuild builds its works, even on a social and cultural level, besides the actual works that are built. Webuild supports sport as a personal and collective growth tool capable of inspiring the construction of a better future. And Caterina Banti, Olympic champion in Tokyo and protagonist of the event, has just come back from a historical success won in the Classe Nacra 17 sailing championship, following a path in which Webuild has always firmly believed in, since 2011, before even any medals and world successes appeared, by supporting the Circolo Aniene that during these years has helped many great athletes grow and succeed. Webuild stands alongside FIV - Federazione Italiana Vela, Circolo Aniene and CONI in supporting the spirit of sacrifice shown by this young woman who allowed Italy to stand at the very top of the podium.

Just like in sport, Webuild also in its construction sites, believes in women and young talent, and therefore invests in their future, valuing their skills, favouring their growth through professional and training paths that allow each one of them to fully express their potential.

The Group, with the under 35 making up 41% of all personnel, during the last months launched the ‘Cantiere Lavoro Italia’ training and employment programme, to hire 10,000 people by 2026, especially in construction sites in the South of Italy. Webuild concomitantly collaborated with a network of almost 20 premium universities both in Italy and globally and with Technical Secondary Schools, with the aim of attracting, selecting, and training talented junior profiles. It also promotes research in innovation for its sector, with the Premio Alberto Giovannini for nearly graduates, new graduates and PhD doctorates.
