Webuild: second work of art of "Murales" Project unveiled today in the construction site of Venezia Station of Line C of Rome's Metro

Salini: we give space to the creativity of young artists and to beauty to accompany the city’s evolution

Rome, April 14, 2025 – A strongly coloured curtain opens on the city with effects that mimic a ‘magical lantern’, an ancestor of today's cinema: Webuild unveiled today, in the construction site of Venezia Station of Line C of Rome’s metro, the second work of art of the artistic project ‘Murales, which was named ‘Ci eleviamo sollevando gli altri’ (We rise lifting others), created by Italian artist Marinella Senatore.

The ceremony of the work's unveiling saw the participation of Rome's Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, of Rome's Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery Director and President of the Scientific Committee of the Murales Project Renata Cristina Mazzantini, and artist Marinella Senatore, also with Webuild CEO Pietro Salini and Vianni Lavori CEO Vincenzo Onorato.

"Today, Piazza Venezia is embellished by a new work of contemporary art that celebrates the merging of art and infrastructure, and gives space to the creativity of young artists, to accompany the continuous evolution of the city.  In Rome, we are fortunate to be surrounded by beauty, which we must contribute to keeping alive every day to leave future generations this priceless cultural heritage. With Murales, Webuild has brought art in the construction site, merging art and beauty even during the construction phase of the new metro line, thanks to the collaboration of companies and institutions, and this is a great novelty of which we are very proud" said Salini.

"With the work signed by Marinella Senatore, the construction site becomes a dynamic set design that collects and merges different forces, from valuing tradition to the search for innovation. This approach is also reflected on the main metro stations of Line C, an engineering challenge where we created a joining together of art, engineering technique and the most advanced technology, with museum stations like that of Piazza Venezia, Porta Metronia and Colosseo/Fori Imperiali, and just as has already happened for San Giovanni Station. With Murales, beauty also lives in the construction site thanks to a transversal collaboration of companies, institutions, experts of the sector and internationally renowned artists" concluded Salini.

The installation was created in the construction site of Venezia Station of Line C of Rome's metro, thanks to the construction consortium led by Webuild and Vianni Lavori, with the patronage of Roma Capitale and with the collaboration of the competent Supervisory Boards. Inspired by Baroque squares, Senatore's installation brings together lighting effects, colours and elements that bring dynamism to the representation, presenting connections with the past and the artist's passions like architecture, photography or even botanical studies. The work of art comes after Pietro Ruffo's, "Costellazioni di Roma" (Rome's constellations) and adds itself to the innovative journey called Murales that, right up to 2026, will transform the construction site of Piazza Venezia in one of the largest open air contemporary art exposition spaces in the Italian capital, to reflect on the transformative roles played by infrastructure projects. The artistic installations directly line the industrial silos of the construction site located at the centre of the square, which therefore become a bit like a huge 640-square-metre canvas on which it is possible to interpret the contemporary to tells a story of the city's many souls.

Line C of Rome's Metro is an infrastructure that will contribute to providing a greener future to the city, while concomitantly enhancing its artistic and monumental heritage. Thought to connect the city from south-east to north-east, passing through its historical centre, Line C extends overall for 26 kilometres, with 29 stations included within Monte Compatri/Pantano and Clodio/Mazzini. Venezia Station will be totally built underground and actually looks like an archaeological station: all of the first level will be dedicated to a museum area and will host archaeological findings that emerged during the excavations.
