New Genoa Breakwater: PerGenova Breakwater Consortium at work to repair damaged caisson during most recent intense storm, no impact on work's timeline

Genoa, January 30, 2025 – The PerGenova Breakwater Consortium building the new Genoa Breakwater informs that during the last and most recent intense storm that hit the Ligurian Sea in these past days, with waves reaching 7 metres in height in the construction site area, the fifth caisson of the new breakwater was damaged in part on its superior part, during filling operations. The caissons, which have not been damaged further, are stable and located in their project design position.

The Consortium said it is already repairing the caisson. Reparations of the damages incurred in the "wave screen" windows that do not have a structural function for the caisson's stability, do not impact in any way the regular carrying out of the activities planned for the new Breakwater, which in fact are being carried out on more fronts as per work plan.

The Consortium's constant monitoring activity allows to promptly intervene, meeting and exceeding complexities linked to building such a challenging work from an engineering perspective and due to the weather and sea conditions in which the work is being built.
