Pietro Salini: training investments crucial for infrastructural development and competitiveness in the South of Italy
Group ready to grow in Campania where 2,400 people are already at work
Naples, July 10, 2024 – "A rebirth of the South of Italy can only occur with modern sustainable, interconnected infrastructures, which can also unblock further territorial investments, bringing new employment. One of the most significant challenges for Italy's future is continuous training, in order to be more competitive globally, and to successfully generate the investments expected by the nation, with a long-term outlook that looks beyond 2026 and the NRP (PNRR)" said Webuild CEO Pietro Salini at the event for signing the Protocol Agreement for training and employment, also attended by the President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca.
"With the agreement that was signed today with the Region of Campania, we wish to invest in training young talent and contributing to increasing high-quality employment levels in the region", said Salini. "In Campania, we are ready to hire 1,500 people in the next 3 years, who add to the approximate 600 people already hired in just a few months in the Campania construction sites, since last November when we launched the Cantiere Lavoro Italia programme, which foresees hiring 10,000 people in Italy by 2026, of which 80% in the South".
"We must provide opportunities to talents in their own land", continued Salini. "In fact, just between 2011 and 2021, 390,000 graduates left Italy. A highly scholarized migration that from a calculation that was made costed Italy a big 4.5 billion per year. To invert this trend and acquire greater strength, institutions and companies must work side by side, even to strengthen a safety and innovation culture: crucial factors for the success of the infrastructure sector".
"Italy's relaunch must start from the South. And this agreement with the Region of Campania follows the two protocols that have already been signed by Webuild with the same goal, but with the Region of Sicily and the Region of Calabria in November 2023. The works that we are building in Campania, where we are already providing work to approximately 2,400 people (directly and indirectly), and in the South of Italy in general, are showing that they are truly a driver for growth and new employment for the territory, which allow us to finally tell a story of a new South that also grows with infrastructure. This is the path to walk, to strengthen the development of the South of Italy: infrastructural works that increase territorial competitiveness, creating interconnections and new job opportunities, and that can ensure that the young living in these areas can remain their territory, also allowing people originally from the South to come back home", concluded Salini.
