Webuild earns top sustainability rating for Sydney Project

NEWS

Milan, May 10, 2018 - Salini Impregilo, a leading global infrastructure group, has received top rating for sustainability for its construction of a prominent part of Sydney Metro Northwest in Australia, the latest acknowledgement of the Group’s respect for the environment in every project it pursues to improve people’s lives.

Salini Impregilo’s work on one of the biggest public transport projects in the country received a “Leading As Built IS rating” – the highest on a scale of three ratings - by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA). The non-profit public and private body operates the country’s only comprehensive rating system to evaluate the sustainability of infrastructure projects in every regard, whether it be environmental, social, economic or governance.

It is the latest recognition that the Group has received from the ISCA. In 2015, it and its partner SMEC won the highest recognition – a Leading Design IS rating- for designing the project in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Salini Impregilo delivered the section of the project known as the skytrain in the northwest of Sydney, including a 4 kilometre viaduct and a 270-metre, curved cable-stayed railway bridge, the biggest of its kind in the country.

With the billions of Australian dollars it is spending on infrastructure, the country has become an important market for Salini Impregilo. In Perth, the Group and a joint-venture partner is working on a 8.5-kilometre-long rail link that will connect the eastern suburbs with the city centre, helping reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.

Salini Impregilo is involved in some of the biggest public transportation projects in the world in support of sustainable mobility, such as the Grand Paris Express rail and metro network in Paris, Line 3 of the Riyadh metro network, the Cityringen metro line in Copenhagen and the Red Line North Underground in Doha.
