Karahnjukar Hydroelectric Project, Iceland - Webuild Project

The Kárahnjukar hydroelectric plant is located in the eastern region of the country. The main objective of the project is the collection of the glacial waters of the Jokulsa river in Dal in the Halslòn reservoir, and the subsequent transfer of the same to feed a 690 MW underground power plant. On commission from LANDSVIRKJUN - Iceland's National Electricity Authority - Webuild built the rock dam with concrete facing face. With its 193 meters, this is the highest of all the Nordic regions and the first of its kind in Europe.
