The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, on the Blue Nile, is located around 14 km upstream of the Ethiopian-Sudan Border, at around 700 km from the Capital Addis Ababa, in Benishangull Gumuz Region in the North West of the Country. 

Once the project is complete, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will be the largest dam in Africa: 1,800 m long, 170 m high and with an overall volume of 10.7 million m³.
