Bucharest Metro Line 5, Lot 1
A new leap forward for the city’s sustainable mobility
The project for Lot 1 of Bucharest Subway, Line 5 involved design and construction of two single-track tunnels – each 4.2km long – as well as nine stations, over the section that runs entirely underground between Râul Doamnei and Eroilor stations (PS Opera)
Tunnels were built using EPB TBMs (Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines), along the Drumul Taberei-Pantelimon section.
Connection with the existing underground network is ensured at the Eroilor station, by means of a pedestrian underpass: passengers on underground line 5 will have direct access to lines 1 and 3 of the underground, and a supplementary transfer to lines 2 and 4 of the underground.
The other stations were located in correspondence with streets served by surface public transportation or streets of major local importance in an effort to improve intermodal travel by an easy transfer between underground and overground means of transport.
